Thankfully the broadcast still caught some of the key highlights of the race, which I will not spoil in case you want to watch it.
I was looking at the Youtube video (bad quality, but it is early 80s afterall), I notice the name Chip Ganassi. Is that the same as the current teamboss?

I installed it tonight, and I probably went through at least 100 gallons of fuel driving.
My best time is 32.5.
Turn 1 is easy, I take this in 2nd or 3rd at about 80mph. I brake right before the red sticker on the right hand side.
Turn 2 is tough for me. I have a hard time getting a smooth entrance and braking point because it's wide open and tough to see even know there are brake markers on the right wall. I typically dab the brakes here and shift down to 4th, about 110 or so mph.
Turn 3 and 4 are wide open, but you have to be precise. I have a hard time identifying my turn in points and the apexes here. Perhaps we can put some cones at the apex of turns 2, 3 and 4?
Turn 5 is easy. I brake in the gap of the logos on the right hand side wall after the "3" marker. 2nd or 3rd gear about 75-80mph.
The biggest problem I have for sure is being smooth through 2, and knowing where I am so I can nail both 3 and 4.
I need to improve my smoothness, and then I will make some replays and set up the AI. It's going to be difficult racing on the back 'stretch' because you sure as hell can't go wide open next to another car that's on the ideal line (I'm thinking of "pass1 and pass2 lp's)

Thank you!! 32.5 is almost two seconds faster than what I can do, and is just faster than Danny Sullivan's 32.9 lap record. I'd say it confirms that the track layout is pretty accurate, and another shout out to @thestig88 for providing a solid outline to work from.
I agree with you Turn 2 is tough. I can try to move the brake markers onto the sand. As for cones, yes let me see what I can do.

I think curbs are possible. I didn't include them before - originally I thought they would give me trouble because it involved elevating the track and another feature to deal with in SFE. But I have a little more skill now and a good workflow set up where I can rebuild a track very quickly. I will look into this for the next build.
That was a great race in 1984. Yeah, the onboard camera breaking is a shame - but it was so hard to see anything with the video quality. Two-abreast on the back stretch is tough as the drivers demonstrated during that race!

Okay, I added curbs to T2, T3 and T4. I also moved the wall a little bit closer before T2 in hopes that the brake markers are more visible, and I think it's actually helped me take T2 faster than I've done before.
In real life the walls were jagged in that place (and all along T1 to T2), because they were still in the same position as in the F1 circuit. For this ICR2 version I try to achieve a balance between realism and playability so if the walls and brake markers help keep the track fun but retain the overall feel of the environment then I'm okay.
Also in this version: added new hotel towers and large billboard that I made from scratch.
