So- today I redid my AI, and I think I learned quite a bit about how the AI and the TXT file are inter-related.
I solved the problem of the AI being jerky (and sometimes causing accidents) in the middle of T2,3 and 4. I did this by changing the math formula on how the PASS1 and PASS2 are calculated. Typically, before this I was using an offset (fixed distance) between RACE and PASS1 (or PASS2). Instead, I am using the average of MAXRACE (or MINRACE) and RACE to give PASS1 (or PASS2). The results are much smoother! Now- I also learned more about MAXPANIC (or MINPANIC) as I was actually using it wrong before. Now- onto the text file. Specifically, the values of the PIT numbers. Here is a cut & paste of my TXT for caesars as of 4/9/20: TNAME Caesars Palace SNAME Caesars Palace PIT -176000 25000000 1599999 32339373 -440000 -668000 1600000 30 32299373 25000000 1000000 SPDWY 0 50 54 LENGT 1125 LAPS 178 FNAME Caesars Palace CITYN Las Vegas, NV COUNT USA PACEA 2 38500000 45000 -45000 0 QUAL 0 30 BLIMP 298800 1416000 GFLAG 38400000 TTYPE 4 CARS 30 30 TEMP 767 137 TEMP2 907 67 WIND 90 135 80 15 137 WIND2 90 135 80 15 137 RAIN 00 00 BLAP 31400 RELS 98 THEAT 12000 11000 10000 15500 9500 7500 5500 15000 TCFF 61535 59535 57535 57535 30800 29989 28989 39000 TCFR 65535 63535 61535 61535 34800 33989 32989 43000 TIRES 64716 5500 76000000 64716 5500 76000000 0 TIRE2 65535 5700 76000000 65535 5700 76000000 0 SCTNS 8 5 3 Highlighting the PIT values: PIT -176000 25000000 1599999 32339373 -440000 -668000 1600000 30 32299373 25000000 1000000 I think I now understand what the 9th, 10th and 11th numbers represent! The tutorial says that 9 and 10 are about the same, and are described as the "beginning DLONG of the pit wall". I believe the 9th value is the DLONG where the Pit speed limit is enforced for the player. I believe the 10th value is the DLONG of where the "magical barrier" of MINPANIC gets ignored so the CC's can enter the pits (or MAXPANIC on other tracks that have the pit lane on the LEFT) This "Magical barrier" is almost like a rubber-band that the CC's will bounce off of, if they hit it. Keep in mind, the pit lane is on the right side at CAESARS. The entrance to the PITS is WAY before turn 5 as well. But the pit speed limit does not start until after the apex of turn 5. How I discovered this was actually because during a race (or practice) if a CC tried to PIT, they would go to turn into the pits, and then bounce off because they were CROSSING MINPANIC. Value 10 in PIT is a DLONG at which MINPANIC is ignored, this allows the cars to drive past the magical barrier, so they can go into the pits. (this only has affect when the CCs are driving on pit.LP, obviously) I believe the very last value in pit (the 11th number) is the point at which MINPANIC's "magical barrier" turns on when the CCs EXIT the pits from pit.LP. The reason I discovered this, was that CC's were trying to exit the pits and they were blasting through the pitwall through the track. So in summary, I believe the 11th value has to be GREATER than the DLONG of which when the cars get back onto the racing line. The yellow flag bug (which I could not get to be a bug anymore, since I think I fixed it) is controlled by the 3rd and 7th values. These are both DLONG. I belive they are the DLONG where the CC's change from PIT.LP to RACE.LP (under green) and PIT.LP to PACE.LP under yellow. I made these only 1 value apart, so they are basically identical. I think the yellow-flag bug existed because the cars pitting exited the pits, and they had the wrong value to change back to PACE.LP- so they just kept going on like it was a green flag. Of course I could be wrong about all of this. But I spent nearly my entire day testing this, and learning from my mistakes the last few days (and prior to that). I thoroughly made myself very happy when I learned this, and it started to make sense. Notice also, some small insignificant details in the TXT above. I have 30 cars racing I changed the qualifying time to 30 minutes instead of 10 I tweaked the fuel window to between 50 and 54 laps (I can typically get 52 laps on a full 40 gallons here) I fixed the greenflag event DLONG. Green flag now drops just after the last row of the grid is making it around the exit of turn 5. I think that is mostly it, although I could be forgetting something. I also do not claim to be the most knowledgeable about AI, or the TXT file. The text file can be "copied and pasted" from above- so I have not made it an attachment: The LPs are here: I am calling this version 3, because it is my second version, and I did not make the first https://drive.google.com/open?id=10d7lVp...KF5SmNzP3t

Thanks for the latest LPs and this great information.
Do you have a good setup that we can bundle with the track?

I will post what I have- It's not a bad setup by as you can see in my videos the setup sometimes gets the right rear tire a little toasty. I didn't have issues going 40 gallons on a full fuel stint, but I did have some times when the tire got 250+F and it gets a little loose at times. Did you know that the TV camera needs to be tweaked? When I go to view replays I almost have to switch to overhead view. Is editing the camera positions hard? The cars are not visible on the front stretch with the TV camera.

Yes, I was just thinking of the cams. I put a couple cams in there just to learn how to do it, but I haven't done anything with them since.
Would you like to help? It's easier than making LP files, for sure. The Tutorial gives you the basics - details about the cam file parameters are inaccurate, but Pavel posted the accurate info in this post: https://icr2.net/forum/showthread.php?tid=1315&page=3 Basically you prepare a couple of text files and there are tools (included with the Tutorial) to get them to convert into CAM and SCR files. The other thing you would need is to figure out the x,y,z coordinates of the cameras, and the suggested method is to load the track in OPE and fly around to get the coordinates. I think you already have the Sandbox so if you just run SG2TRK, TRK23D and 3D23DO then you will be able to open the track in OPE. It looks like you have a wheel so you might actually have an easier time than me flying around the track. Latest version of the track. I think it's really close to the finish and anything else will just be small tweaks at this point. Edit: Removed attachment - v1.0 has been posted.

Here is the setup I've been using. Some things to note 1 - I like to run low pressures because it gives me more grippy tires (as long as the temperatures are relatively even across the inside, middle and outside) 2- This track almost needs medium compound tires on the right rear as it tends to get hot under heavy fuel load. This makes the car oversteer a bit but temps would not go past about 255f for me. My best time is 32.465. https://youtu.be/c3sPGZb2Xtc video of just some practice, with the new improved and challenging AI, as well as all of the new awesome graphics!

Here it is - the version 1.0 release of Caesars Palace oval!
An icr2.net community effort, the following individuals worked on this project: thestig88 - track geometry checkpoint10 - trackside objects, textures, additional track geometry samsepi0l - LP files, default car setup, track.txt, beta testing I want to thank everyone for their feedback, encouragement and track editing advice! Modders: I have included the files that may be helpful if anyone wants to further edit the track or just want to know how it was made: SG, MRK, 3D, OPE.TXT, and TSD file are in source.zip

Big thanks for it. I installed DOSBox on Friday on my new laptop, after I didn't play ICR2 for more than 2 years.
I did also some fast laps in testing mode, but I have to improve my setup, because I don't have acceptable car control till now. My fastest lap was 32,275, I think, it can be better. Maybe today I try the track with traffic.

Is there a little hot lap competition going on?
Despite so much time working on this track, my best lap is only 33.104. |
