Nashville Street Circuit (WIP thread)
#1
I've been working on Nashville (the upcoming IndyCar street circuit) for a while now and I think it's ready for some testing and feedback. I have attached the work in progress to this post, as well as a couple of screenshots.

It's an interesting track - of course the headline is that it crosses over a bridge - but it's also got some elevation changes and both narrow and super wide areas.

@samsepi0l I know you're not much a fan of the current era of IndyCar but I was wondering if you would be willing to do some AI for this track.

Edit: Removed attachment - refer to latest in thread

LOL you nailed it right there.. I can't stand the modern stuff. I would be glad to put my personal feelings aside though to help with the project though.

I JUST finished my 1995 "reynard 2k" carset minutes ago, so I will have that available to upload later this week. I have enough new spare carsets now so I plan on going back to work on more tracks and learn more where I left of when I started playing with Tamiami.

I should be able to drive this track and work on the AI this week. I need to get fast here before I can make successful AI. Can you help me get the SG file for the road-atlanta I have been trying to do? I need the corner-radii.

Thanks! I know I still need to put in the brake markers, but hopefully there are enough trackside objects and road markings to get you started. I will also take a look at Road Atlanta and see if I can figure it out.

That's great! I would love to hear any feedback on the track so far. Do you still live in Nashville and if so, any chance you can help verify if the track feels like the real thing? I am a little unsure about the elevation changes even though I got them from Google Earth. Despite some videos I found on YouTube of the track, it's really hard to tell what the elevations are supposed to feel like.

Also, there are a couple of inaccuracies having to do with the limitations of ICR2. For example I couldn't put the opposite lanes of the bridge close together, otherwise it breaks the game. So the far side of the circuit is slightly modified to accommodate this. But I am hoping at least I got the general feel and it really shouldn't be noticeable unless you actually look at the track with a modding tool.

I went through 80 gallons here today.

I am getting 28-29 laps per 40 gallon tank.

best time is 1m17.695

I really struggle after the first bridge in the "tip toe and be tidy" section.  After the second bridge pass the track really opens up and is much more easy to push.

I want to add that the track functioned flawlessly, no warps or bugs found.  I did notice that there is a really narrow section after you get past the first bridge, so I checked it on google maps and sure enough there is a sort of "side road" that you copied.

I'd be really surprised if they don't widen the track there in real life,  It's only wide enough for about 2 cars.  My guess is they will modify the curbing there.  The old rule of thumb was that it has to be wide enough for 4 cars (touching tire to tire), at 6ft wide it should make it about 24 feet.

I have to say you have a very good attention to detail...

Here's a new version of the track. I widened that narrow corner (Turn 8) which I think makes it a lot faster. I think this is consistent with what the track designer Tony Cotman described in this article:

"Turn 7 is a 90-degree corner and then the cars are accelerating through Turn 8 which is a quick S, up to Turn 9 which is the highest point on the course. There’s a 60ft difference between the highest to lowest point of the track and this Turn 9 is just a little bit higher than the bridge."

Also added some more roadway markings and zebra crossings.
