powerslides possible?

Hi guys... im totally new to this game and still in the very early learning stage so sorry for the noob questions..

i was poking around online looking to see if anyone had an example of icr2 modded to run touring cars, which brings up the issue of car handling differences..

i found a page : http://alison.hine.net/sims/icr2.htm

"Add terrific car setups that will make the car much faster and much more forgiving - and more fun - to drive. With good setups, you can really toss these cars around, doing opposite-lock powerslides to your heart's content in slower corners and wailing through faster ones in great long high-speed drifts. This is racing to the Max!
"

so is this some kind of mod/patch that alters the physics engine or (and) just a matter of tweaking car setup eg shocks, camber etc

These are going to just be setups- not hacking the EXE to change the physics. You can mess with the track.txt file to get extra grip, but realistically powersliding in a champcar will just overheat the rear tires.

any idea of the basic changes to setup needed to get the car handling like that?

what i would like to do is change the car style to touring cars and make the handling more them too.. but how would i get the opponent AI cars to handle differently? what determines the handling and line that the oppnent AI cars take?
also is it possible to lower the power output and increase weight of both your own car and the AI cars?

You can lower the "power" in drivers2.txt but it actually reduces the acceleration; given a long enough straight the cars will have the same top speed. I don't know of any way to make the AI handle differently... at least as differently as you want them to. The traction can be reduced but I suspect it would just make them spin out more often.

When it comes down to it, ICR2 was designed as a dedicated Indycar sim, back in the days before pc's were capable of all the real-time calculations needed to simulate generalized vehicular dynamics; it's a "one-trick pony." And the webpage you referenced was from an early sim racer trying to build a following, so there's some hype and glamour going on.

But try to figure something out if you want - that's what this place is for.

yeah it is a good game but coming from nascar 1 the indycars are so much easier to drive .. the nascars (on non-oval tracks) take a real amount of finesse to get around quickly.. the nascars are a lot slower but a lot trickier but also very rewarding to get it right..

also ... are u saying that the computer AI cars are basically preprogrammed on a set line or set of lines and arnt doing real time driving calcs?

It's a combination; there are some real-time calculations happening while the AI move between preprogrammed lines.
