I don't want to have to fully go back and look at it but if I can find a corrected palette to get the colors match I should be able to have no issues. I'll keep playing with it for now.

That looks like the N99 template. I've been working with the stock N2 palette. I do remember reading something about there having to be a "palette fix" of some kind.

Try these. This is a GIMP layered file that is indexed color mode and using the N2 palette.
And here is the actual palette file in case you need to import it into whatever program you're using.

Or you can export any of default cars, extract palette from it and load int to your file.

That palette was what I was looking for! Now I'm cooking with this. Long way to go but a proof of concept for the 1997 Truck field...

Aw heck yeah! I'd offer to help with the trucks, but I'm all-in with my 1994 set right now. Are you using gradient and/or transparency for the shading and highlights? You'll eventually run into trouble because the colors underneath the gradients won't be in the palette, so the final PCX will start grabbing random colors and it gets frustrating. You can see it starting to grab yellow from the small decals in my Mark Martin car, so I had to change the shading down the sides of the car to just solid colors.

I've adopted a "color by number" system that you can see in this screenshot. I traced a car's highlights and shadows from the game. Zero (0) is the base color, then the + and - different shades of that color from the palette. It's a bit tedious to make it, but then it's smooth sailing afterward. It beats drawing highlights for EVERY paint job, and it's consistent.

Yeah, I'm using transparent vector shading and highlights, it's what I've done for literal years for MTM2. I'm aware of the issues with the colors but I also tend to use vector graphics in Paint Shop Pro wherever possible, so it's easy to mess around with the colors and level of transparency to get the effect I want. The Irwin truck is really just a proof of concept for a Ford, I'm giving it a break for today but will try to get in on a Chevy template later in the week.

I'll shut up then  Laugh

I'm making my cars in Affinity Designer, but that doesn't have an indexed-color mode, so all of my gradients/transparencies are just hopes and prayers before dropping into my GIMP pcx. Not the end of the world. I'm just coming at it from a different angle.

Chevy template is done and looking good. Dodge I need to tweak, its difficult to replicate the Son of Kenworth styling with the stock model.

Nice! Yeah, getting the styling right is near impossible.

Hey. Found this page in the Wayback Machine. Has truck templates. Not sure if they'll help.

I finished up the truck templates but will definitely make use of those car templates. Thanks!
