The 2012 Indy Car
#1
The 2012 spec Indy Car by Dallara has been unveiled at IMS.

The plan was to have the main Dallara chassis fitted with different aero kits manufactured by individual teams and engine suppliers.

Unfortunately, the majority of the teams are against optional aero kits for next year in fear of increased cost.

I think the Road Course chassis is amazing, not so sure about the Oval-

I agree the road course design is better. I remember years ago seeing Hotwheels cars something like the oval model and thinking when will this become reality? I guess it is now. YUCK!

We'll just have to get used to it I guess. Much like the current spec Dallara which I thought was an eye sore when they first introduced it all these years ago.

I am happy about the fact of multiple engine suppliers. I was looking forward to having custom aero kits next year to make the cars look slightly different.

The oval car reminds me somewhat of the Batwing.

These cars must be the ugliest open wheeled monstrosities I have ever seen. The front would be sort of acceptable to me if all the winglets would get a visit from the sledgehammer first. But the rear is a joke, it would even look fugly on a Le Mans prototype.

Edit: when you would do an image morph going from a 1995 indycar to the NASCAR COT I think this would be one of the intermediate steps Grin3

fortunatly, they only represent what could be done with the aero kits. They are NOT what we will see next year. Thank god. I really really hope they get rid of the airbox.

1 - even if these bodies were fiberglass instead of carbon fiber, it's a lot of work and expense to do molds just to realize someone's "artist's conception". and since testing will have to commence soon to have a fleet ready to go for next season, i'm betting this is what will be come '12.

2 - it's not an airbox. it's a covered rollhoop that just happens to add probably 75 sq.in. or so of frontal area.
