Site update now complete
#1
The update to CRHQ is now complete. We will still be called CART Racing Headquarters, but I have registered a new domain for the website:

http://icr2.net

Short, easy to remember and since we are pretty much the only website for ICR2/CARt Racing nowadays I thought we could take that one without a problem.

The pages at the old domain should be automatically redirected to this new domain, unless it is a page that was dropped (for now). But we have only left the Links (so many broken links now, it is not worth having up anymore) and the Experiments pages behind. Both might return in a different form.

I have also started to upload more stuff to the Archive. The roadcourses section is now done and I am about 1/3 done with the paved ovals. More to be expected in the upcoming days/weeks.

I hope you like our new layout and domain! questions, remarks, bugs, tell me here or by PM! There is still some work to do now after the move, but you can tell me anything you want just in case I should miss something!

One thing I noticed: a lot of links on the forum still point to the old domain. Which software designer thought it was a good idea to use absolute links in stuff like attachments deserves a severe trouting. But do not worry about that. No need to edit your posts at this point to make them work again, I can batch replace those in the database. Probably done some time today.

Just one question for the carsets:
The old ones where without indetical names (.dat file and the folder), does this will be fixed in this uploads?

If you can give me the names of those carsets, or better an already updated RAR file for it, then sure.

Thankyou! Now site is 'alive'.

One suggestion. I like GPL community file store structure. They have GPL Track Database with list of all tracks and links to them. Some tracks are on this site, most of the tracks are on srmz.net forum, and some on other sites. And gpl database contains links to the thread of srmz forum or to other sites. I think we may do smth like this. It can be ICR2 track list or Archive track section. Some tracks will be there, some will contain links to this forum threads, some will be links to other sites. Same can be done with carsets. It's better to have things this way because forum threads with tracks/carsets usually have addons or other useful information.

+1 I support you but then we must watch more for dead links also.

BTW: The new design is really awesome.

That is a very good suggestion, but fact of the matter is that most ICR2 websites are now dead. The only place I can think of that is alive is Mistycreek's Trackshoppe. but I do not think he will be releasing a lot more ICR2 tracks. We could ask him if we can put those in our own Archive for safe keeping. Then there is this forum and our own Archive and that's about it.

If you want to have something that is similar to GPL Track Database then this will take some effort I think. That pretty much needs to be scripted from scratch. I do not and very likely will never have the time to do that. For me the gain would not be worth the effort. Anyone who would enjoy making something like that, a PHP or ASP scripter for example, can count on my support any time. This server will be fit for the task for sure and it would be a good addition to this site.

It was my own idea to just put everything we can find and store it in the archive. Be it tracks, carsets and what have you. When I am done with the paved ovals from the old archive i will collect tracks and track edits from the forum and put them there. Then a possible next project could be to go through our own Tracklist and find as many of the 'site gone' tracks that we can find to also put in the Archive. That would make the Tracklist page redundant. Look at how many tracks point to this website already. The rest point mostly to dead sites Smiley

And that is where the trouble starts for me. Right now I can afford to free up some time to do work on the site. No idea how it will be next week, next month, etc. The common problem :-)

And one more thing from me:

I think we must start collecting and utillities staff also. Because some links like I had sayed dont work anymore. It will be excellent if all of this ICR2 staff is in one place.
