Low speed = better steering?

Im thinking about reducing the speed of the cars (if its possible) and in that way we the keyboard users can control easier this cars.

So thats my question......

on the game CONTROLS menu, set steering for "non-linear" (i'm about 87% sure it's "non"). that will give better response with keyboard.

lowering opponent strength in the game menu will slow all opponents by that percentage of what is described by each track's .lp files.

you can also edit the drivers2.txt for your carset. first, check to see that your car is set in the same range as the other cars. for a long time, it was a common belief that the DINFO line for the player car had no relevance to game play, so those relative values sometimes weren't considered by the set creator - and some could put you at a major disadvantage right there. each line has a series of 8 3-digit numbers. they are paired low/high values (000 - 999) for (in left-to-right order) power, traction, drag, and aggression. increased power is of course faster and maybe burns more fuel, increased traction is faster (especially in corners) and maybe eats tires faster. increased drag slows you down and maybe burns more fuel. my testing also seemed to show that aggression also works as an inverse value as far as passing/allowing passing goes.

so i would set the opponent strength at 100% and make sure that my car (the 2nd DINFO line in drivers2.txt - the 1st is the pace car) has values equivalent to the rest of the field. select a track with a good long front straight (road america, pocono, heartland park, etc) and open the trackname.txt file. set the RELS value to 100 (this also controls the strength factor %). turn off pace laps, go to your track and bypass practice and qualifying, going straight to the race. this will put you at the back of the pack at the moment the track goes green. if you accelerate as hard as you can as soon as possible, you will see how you accelerate compared to everyone else. starting from there, adjust the values as needed to get you competitive with that carset.

Good suggestions man, I had thinked about editing the track files too.

Yes Im using NON-LINEAR steering its helps a lot. But for me the better steering means that: I will lower the OPPS power in every track, adjusting my car setups for low speed and good control in the corners and thats all.

Im not a HEX programmer but I will try your suggestion also.

you don't need a hex editor. it's all choices from the in-game menu, or text files that can be edited with notepad.
