Problem with track creation
#11
Not every file from ICR2 is converted properly. Not sure why. I found that out when testing Winmip2, but had to revert to Winmip.

I have WinMip2 so I can not save stp files in icr2/n2/n3/nl. But with RolEdit all works . Thanks!
Also I have a question. How to determine North of the track for wind direction? I looked through icr2 tracks and think that last parametet in WIND string determine it. Is I right?

Hey once again, glad you got it to work... and your question about the wind is a good one because I have absolutely no idea ! I have never even thought about orientation of my tracks ! I just... build ! Smiley I hope someone else can help you.

I have question about SGE. I create a turn with bancking. But when I change grade of outside line it also change grade of inside line. So how I can change grade of outside line without changing inside line?

Second, I asked about track direcfion. This is what I think about it.

I looked through all original tracks for icr2, n1 and some of n2 and I think that info about direction of the track is in last parameter of the WIND string in txt-file. WIND string consist of 5 parameters. First is wind direction, second is 268435456 and it's the same for all tracks. I don't know what it means. Third and fourth are range of wind speed. Fiveth parameter it's North direction. When you decide where the North direction will be on your track you can get parameters from my picture (track must be placed like in SGE/SFE). Other directions can be easy calculated. Same with wind direction.

This is what think about it .

"So how I can change grade of outside line without changing inside line?"

You need to add an extra height line for that in what I have called window 3 in my SGE tutorial. Normally when you start out with a track it will have only two height lines [the squares in wondow 3]. you will need to determine on which DLAT you want the banking to change and add a heightline there by clicking right below the white line. You can move it from side to side for all sections by clicking the triangle that has appeared. Then you can have different banking for the two parts of the track when looked at from left to right.

I have discussed this procedure in the SGE tutorial as well:

http://icr2.net/tutorials/track_editing/using_sge.html

Scroll down to Creating Some Elevation Change, the bit I have just explained is dealt with in more detail there, the part you might be interested in starts just below the 4th picture in the Creating Some Elevation Change section. Hope this helps.

About your WIND theory, it sounds very plausible to me. So if for example in Windy I have wind set up to blow from the West, and I change that last parameter to rotate the whole track's orientation by 180 degrees then the wind will blow from the other side of the track, even if I don't change anything about the wind direction itself ?

By the way, are Pavel 69 and Pavel 69 the same person ? Grin3 Check out the profiles on the last two posts by you on the left side of the screen !

The second number in the WIND line defines the range of the wind direction, similarly to the 4th number with wind speed range. That is the first number is the average wind direction, the second is some kind of deviation of the wind direction, the third is the average wind speed, the fourth is again the deviation of the wind speed, and the fifth is the track orientation. I do not know the exact distribution used in the game to generate the actual data, I just know that zeroing the 2nd and 4th parameters gives always the same wind data defined by the 1st and 3rd parameters.

Hi!
I have 3doEditor ver 2.0d. When I create inserts.txt all positions are not in papy units. Maybe Another version of 3doEditor I need?

Also, How to load 3do from icr2 to ope?

I use 3doEd 1.0i and it works Ok. Maybe the newer versions are optimized for other sims so try going back to one of the older 1.0 ones. If you don't know where to find one I can send one to you. Maybe you are trying to load a GPL track ? Those objects DO use another measurement system then the N99/N3/ICR2 ones.

OPE can only load N3 or N2/N99 format .3do objects so no GPL/ICR2/N1 objects. But you can convert the ICR2 object by converting the whole track to N2 using the ICR2N2 Converter by Dave Noonan and then taking the object that you need out of the track. But that converter renames all the objects to numbered objects so you have to look for it in 3doEd first. That is how I made LB05. I converted the ICR2 Long Beach track to N2, made a inserts.txt/ope.txt from that track, converted the .trk to .sg, edited the layout, reloaded all the objects in OPE, made some TSD's and loaded TSO's in the new part.
